Kusum Kangru lies in Khumbu Region with impressive ice and rock climbing. It separates the valley of the Dudh Koshi from the upper reaches of the Hinku Khola in the southern end of the Charpati Himal and northern end this mountain is attached by Mt. Kangtega and Thamserku. On the way to Namche, it can be only seen from Thadokoshi which is near to Phakding
The word Kusum Kangru comes from Tibetan, meaning 'three snow peaks'. The North face of the tripled-summited mountain is the most remarkable. It is taken as the most difficult peak among the other trekking peaks of Nepal. The climbing is technically difficult, so that pre-training and climbing experience is needed with great commitment to conquer this mountain.
There were four unsuccessful attempts on Kusum Kangru before it was first ascent by a Japanese team in the autumn 1979. Day01: Arrive in Kathmandu and transfers to Hotel
Day02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu (Pashupatinath Temple, Swoyambhu, Buddhanath Temple) and preparation day for trekking.
Day 03: Fly to Lukla
Early in the morning flight to Lukla. It takes around half an hour flight to reach Tenzing and Hillary airport Lukla. Lukla is a small city in the lap of High Mountain. It is commence point of our trek.
Day 04: Trek to Chhutenga after having breakfast we start our trek towards Chutanga. The trial goes straight from lukla up to 1 hour then slightly ascent up to Chutanga. We have to walk through the pristine of Rhododendron (National flower of Nepal) and pine. It takes around 3 hrs from Lukla to Chutanga.
Day 05: Trek to Chhetra La
We continue walking through Rhododendron and Oak forest. We can also see yak grazing on the way. The route is slightly ascent up to a small steam.
Day 06: Trek to Kothe
after having breakfast we have to walk straight around 1 hour on a rock way, on the way we can see the first view of Mera Peak. Then 2 hours descent in Oak and Jennifer forest. After having lunch in thakthor then continue trek to kote. The trial goes up and down- up and down up to Kote.
Day 07: Rest day in Kothe
Day 08: Trek to Tagnak
Trial goes slightly up through the bank of Inkhu Khola.On the way nice view of Mt. charpate and Mera La. On the way we can see a Buddhist Gomba in the lap of big rock.
Day 09: Rest day in Tagnak
Today is our rest day. After having breakfast we start hike towards the Mt. Charpate (Holy Mountain), we can see the nice view and outstanding view of Mera North. After hiking around 3 hours we will come back to Tagnag.
Day 10: Trek to Khare
Today the trial slightly goes up around half an hour up to Dig Kharka, which offers breathtaking view of Mt. Charpate. The route continues slightly up towards Khare. There is small Sherpa village, which offers nice accommodation in Khare, which situated in sloppy land surface.
Day 11: Khare - Acclimatization day
Today is the acclimatization day in Khare.
Day 12: Trek back to Tagnak
Day 13: Kusum Kangru Base Camp
Day 14: Rest day at Base Camp
Day 15: High Camp
Day 16: Summit > Base Camp
Day 17: Extra day for Summit
Day 18: Tagnak
Trek downward towards Tagnak.
Day 19: Chhetra
Today we have to walk towards Chhetra from Tagnak. We have to walk through forest and rhododendron forest then we climb short walk and then we reach Chherra, overnight stay in Chhetra.
Day 20: Lukla
We return back to Lukla from where we started our trek. This is our final and last walk to the mountain. We prepare for the flight to Kathmandu. This is our last and memorable day in Khumbu. We spend our night celebrating with Sherpa friends and their culture.
Day 21: Fly to Kathmandu
Day 22: Kathmandu
It is our rest day in Kathmandu. You can walk around thamel in the early evening. It is the main tourist attraction where you can have various options to buy. It seems restful to walk around Thamel.
Day 23: Departure
Today is the departure day from Kathmandu with the unforgettable memories of trekking and climbing Kusum Kangru.
